Doxycycline (as doxycycline hyclate).....................100 mg

INDICATIONS:
Treatment of the following infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to doxycycline:
Cattle, sheep and goats: Pneumonia, bronchopneumonia and pasteurellosis.
Pigs: Pneumonia and bronchopneumonia.

ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE:
Intramuscular route.
Cattle: 10 mg of doxycycline/kg body weight/day (equivalent to 1 ml/10 kg body weight/day), for 4-5 consecutive days.
Pigs, sheep and goats: 5 mg of doxycycline/kg body weight/day (equivalent to 0.5 ml/10 kg body weight/day), for 4-5 consecutive days.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines and/or any of the excipients.
Do not use in animals with liver disorders.

SIDE EFFECTS:
As with the rest of tetracyclines, allergic and photosensitivity reactions may occur.
In very prolonged treatments, digestive disorders due to intestinal dysbiosis may appear.
Transient local reactions (swelling and pain) may appear at the injection site.
Gastrointestinal disorders after parenteral administration which may range from nonspecific enteritis to enterocolitis with toxicosis, collapse, dehydration and hypokalemia.
Cases of hypotension and sudden collapse have been observed when the route of administration has been rapid intravenous, especially in cattle.
High levels of blood urea nitrogen (BNU) can be detected since tetracyclines interfere with protein synthesis even in the host cells, and therefore tend to be catabolic.
Alteration of normal defense mechanisms may be observed. They inhibit leukocyte chemotaxis and phagocytosis when present in high concentrations at infection sites.
